Marlborough Partners
In 2018 Marlborough Partners, a leading debt advisory business, servicing private equity firms and public and corporate clients across Europe, moved their London office to a new location in Mayfair and instructed Working Environments to create a design scheme including the spacial planning and furniture.
The Brief
With a blank slate to start with the design direction was simply to ensure that furniture scheme complimented the Oak wood panels in the meeting room and communal area. This straight forward brief gave us the freedom to select pieces that were in keeping with the panels and were tasteful and stylish yet practical. One important element was to ensure that the communal space was conducive to communication for their employees, who previously had not had the opportunity to discuss work anywhere other than at their desks.
Choosing Furniture
Products were chosen for their style and functionality to create a consistent feel across the office space. The communal area contains complimentary Arper pieces all designed by Lievore Altherr Molina, a Spanish studio founded by trio of Spanish designers that have a beautifully humanist approach to their designs. The three seater Saari sofa which comes with a fully removable cover which enables the sofa to be refreshed without replacing the piece entirely. The coffee tables are called Dizzie tables and have a deceptively simple silhouette making them visually striking, and make them a perfect compliment to the surrounding furniture. The Colina armchairs, have a soft sculptural effect that invite you to sit. All placed on a luxurious rug from Object Carpet.
Adjacent to the communal area is a small kitchen area which is separated by a Lapalma Brunch table with its distinctive curved ends which is punctuated with Lapalma’s iconic LEM Bar stools. The perfectly minimalist stools have a closed shape give them a timeless and sophisticated elegance and give the opportunity to add a splash of colour.
Meeting Rooms
Across the corridor is the larger of two meeting rooms which is dominated by a Modus Connect meeting table. It is an elegant and sleek solution that comprises a steel framework which provides support for the table top and houses the cable management solutions as well as connecting the legs. To compliment the Connect table, the meeting room chairs are again designed by Lievore Altherr Molina for Arper. The Catifa 46 chair is the little sister of the highly recognisable Catifa 53. They have the same sleek profile with a crisp, casual efficiency that is designed for spaces that require a slightly smaller scale. In addition this collection is GreenGuard certified, meaning that it complies with strict certification criteria that consider safety factors for sensitive individuals such as children or the elderly. This is not necessarily a factor here in this office but it does mean that these chairs are extremely environmentally-friendly which makes them a more sustainable choice than other chairs in the market.
Finally, for the main office workspace it was Forma 5 Skala height adjustable desks that were chosen for their adaptability to the physiology and anatomy of their user. This desk is the result of in-depth studies of people and their health at work. It utilises this information to make an ergonomic office desk that is flexible for all types of people.
Overall the office has an understated elegance and simplicity which suits the ethos of the client and has created a calm and tasteful environment for their employees. If you are looking to update your office or you are moving to a new location, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
